Le New Chattouille Awaits You

Want to have something to drink and eat in a bar and play around with some cats, and even adopt them? All this is possible in Le New Chattouille. There used to be another cat cafe here, which had to close some years ago, called Le Chattouille. Luckily the present owner was able to save it.

The bar offers a small selection of hot and cold drinks, sodas and beers, and also warm and cold snacks. Most of the people come for the cats of course, who are willing to keep you company and to play with you. All the cats come from a shelter and are up for adoption.

This is the address: Le New Chattouille, Rue Tasson-Snel 11, 1060 Saint-Gilles.

This link brings you to the official website of the cat cafe.

At Lake Eupen

For this short post, we are still in the East Cantons in Belgium. Just outside of the picturesque town of Eupen is this artificial lake, formed by a dam on the river Vesdre. The dam was built in 1938.

A nice place to cool off during warm summer days! Go for a walk in the nearby High Fens, which I will feature on this website later.

Driving Around In The East Cantons

A lot of people think that Belgium has 2 official languages, but there are actually 3 of them. In the East Cantons German is the official language, although most people know French as well. This part of the country used to belong to Germany, but became part of Belgium after the Treaty of Versailles, just after World War I. During the forties, however, the region went back to Germany, but was reintegrated to Belgium after World War II. About 100.000 people live here now. The main cities are Eupen, Malmedy and Sankt Vith.

Driving around here makes you feel that you are not in Belgium anymore, but it isn't Germany either. It's a part of the country that is lesser-known by tourists and Belgians alike. I took the following pictures near Reinhardstein.

This is not an area of big cities. It's rather rural with quaint towns. The following pictures are from all over the region.
